After doing a handful of multi-billion dollar movies for Marvel, Thor has become one of the most loved characters. By now, it is hard for everybody to see Thor being played by somebody besides Chris Hemsworth. During a recent interview conducted by W Magazine, the hunky actor has revealed a secret. He shares that his younger brother, Liam Hemsworth, could have gotten the role.
Chris is now promoting his new Marvel movie, Thor: Ragnarok. At this point, nobody dares to argue that Chris Hemsworth was indeed an excellent fit to play the role of the hammer-wielding Asgardian. He played the character almost as if he came right out of the comic book series.
Chris Hemsworth Reveals Story of his Casting
It may come as quite a shock, but Chris Hemsworth was the second choice for Thor. The actor reveals that he came in with fellow actor Kenneth Branagh. He tells the magazine that he was confident that he nailed the auditions. Chris began questioning his performance when he never received a call back from the production team.
He continues to tell the magazine that it was his little brother, Liam who got called back. This was months after his first audition as the god of thunder.
He adds that Liam Hemsworth was in Australia at the time being and turned in his audition tape. Chris was surprised that Liam had received a call instead of him. He even admitted that Liam came pretty close to nabbing the role. It was inevitable that he would be rejected later on.
Chris Hemsworth also tells the magazine that it was his manager who helped him get a second audition.
“My manager then called up and said, ‘You know, [Liam]’s got an older brother. Can we bring him back in?”
His second audition went smoother this time around, he shares. The rest would, later on, be history.
