Baby Bump not a Problem for Runway Model

Fashion is an evolving art. It aims to move past the norms and break barriers and limits. To prove a point, Eckhaus Latta Spring 2018 showcased that a baby bump can be part of fashion. According to Zoe Latta, co-founder of Eckhaus Latta, they had no intentions of following latest trends. Instead, they want to introduce something unconventional.

“To have a bunch of one gender that’s the same race and height and size and fit, wearing similar clothes and makeup—I don’t think we were ever interested in that,”

The fashion event does seem to follow its mantra after the previous Eckhaus Latta Spring 2017 campaign. The latter featured an explicit turn by having real couples have actual sex in their ads.

Baby bump, star of this year’s show

The fashion event featured artist India Menuez and model Camilla Deterre along with a bunch of new faces in Alex Olson, Ferris, model Paloma Elsesser and musician Kelela.

What highlighted this year’s Eckhaus Latta Spring 2018 event, however, is Maia Ruth Lee. She exemplified confidence by proudly presenting her baby bump.

Lee was proud enough to show the baby bump and not hide it on some garment by wearing a pale lavender snap-front cardigan dress. It was unfastened at the middle to show her baby bump.

She is reportedly due next month according to casting director Rachel Chandler. Backstage, she adds that Maia came in and just tried a look which fits.

The director, also coming from a recent delivery, laughingly shares. Mike Eckhaus gives his opinions as well regarding Lee’s decision to join the event being on her pregnancy period. He says, “It’s fashion, but there’s a sense of how it moves with you in all these different ways.”

Director Nicole Phelps of Vogue Runway also took her insight along with a snap of Lee to his Instagram. The post has reached more than 5,000 likes.
